It dawned on me today who Cagney reminds me of…… Pepé Le Pew!
The following is taken from Wikipedia for anyone not familiar with this character:
“Pepé Le Pew is a fictional character in the Warner Bros. Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series of cartoons, first introduced in 1945. A French skunk that always strolls around in Paris in the springtime, when everyone’s thoughts are of “love”, Pepé is constantly seeking “l’amour” of his own. However, he has one huge turnoff to any prospective mates: his malodorous scent. Furthermore, he cannot take ‘no’ for an answer, blissfully convinced that the girl is flirting with him, even when she physically assaults him.”

Now I know that Cagney avoids having a bath or a misting but I cannot imagine he has a “malodorous scent” like Pepé Le Pew. However, he does not seem able to take ‘no’ for an answer! He pursues Atilla relentlessly… He climbs all over her… He gropes & fondles her… He cannot keep his little claws off her… He whispers sweet nothings to her whilst feeding her, with his foot on her chest…. He squeezes beside her on the swing… He chases her around the ttmss swing… He arrives at her destination before her…
