Moult City

Moulting has been going on here, off & on, for the last month or so.

Dalai started to lose feathers first but then recovered quickly.  I thought that was it but probably due to the changeable weather we have had, Dalai has started moulting again & has some pin feathers & is currently a little grumpy.  Here he is with his latest pin feathers:

Perry has lost some feathers but apart from one or two pin feathers on his head, does not appear to have suffered much.  Here he is with a few pin feathers:

Lennie displayed some impressive pin feathers on his head but he got through his moult fairly quickly:

Through all the confusion over whether it was the right time to moult (or not), Bezukhov made the decision to moult & stuck to it so his spring moulting journey has been more steady than the others & fortunately, not extreme like in Autumn (the Extreme Moult Experience).

Here he is with his slightly longer moult:

Mini Beast from the East!

We have had more snow!  As previously reported, we had the Beast from the East, but this was followed up at the weekend by the Mini Beast from the East:

“Following a brief spell of warmer weather, a fresh cold snap nicknamed the “Mini Beast from the East” was forecast to bring another covering of snow on the weekend of 17 and 18 March.”  Read more here.

You would think that Bezukhov, Dalai, Perry & Lennie would be bored of it by now & in fact they were a little blasé about it, apart from Bezukov.  Bezukhov shouted at the snow a lot.  So much so that I was surprised he did not lose his voice!

Here are some videos of Bezukhov:

Here are some photos:

The eagle-eyed among you will notice there are no photos of Lennie.  He did go to the window perch several times for a closer look at the snow but he was too quick to get on camera!  To balance things out, here is a photo of the rascal that is Lennie:

Happy 2nd Adoption-day, Dalai!!!

Dalai came into our home on the 14th March 2016.  He was, we believe, around 5 months old at the time, putting his birthday (or hatchday) at sometime in October.  As we do not know the exact date that he came into this world, we celebrate the date he came into our lives.

I had to double-check the year he arrived as I feel like he has been here much longer!  Here he is admiring himself in the mirror:

Happy adoption-day, Dalai darling.

We love you lots!

A snowy blue moon

As posted yesterday, we have had snow, which is pretty unusual for these parts, but we also had a rare occurrence of Perry having a bath so there must also have been a blue moon!

I only have one photo as you have to be very, very quick to catch Perry in the bath!

Lennie had a thorough dunking though:

Then he fed Dalai & had a preen:

Followed 20 minutes later by another bath:

I am surprised there was any water left at the end!

The Beast from the East!

We have had snow, courtesy of the Beast from the East.

“At the end of last week the UK became a victim of the northern polar jet stream, which has twisted its direction unexpectedly, drawing in cold air from the east.”  Read more here.

It has caused disruption but fortunately Bezukhov, Dalai, Perry & Lennie are safe, well & warm.  They have been surveying the phenomenon but to be frank, after a few days, the novelty has now worn off!
