Remembering Bezukhov on his birthday

Happy birthday my dear boy!

On this day in 2010, wonderful Bezukhov hatched.  I did not meet him & his best buddy Cagney, until four months later.  They were the best of friends.

This video is of the two of them on the window perch with a rainbow in the background:

Thinking of you, my beautiful boy.

Love you always.

Remembering Cagney on his birthday

Happy birthday my dear boy!

On this day in 2010, wonderful Cagney hatched.  I did not meet him & his best buddy Bezukhov, until four months later.  They were great friends.

This video is of the two of them having some quality time together on the window perch:

Thinking of you, my lovely, charming boy.

Love you always.

Remembering Dalai on his adoption day

On this day, 6 years ago, Dalai came into our home.  He was such a vibrant & resilient character!

Here is a video of him on the window perch:

Always in our thoughts & still missed.

Moriarty Milestones: Window Perch

It took time, but finally, on the 5th April, Moriarty braved the window perch!

Due to Perry & Lennie’s current lack of flying ability, the window perches have been out-of-bounds for well over a year (certainly Dalai was the last to use them).  This has meant that Moriarty had to find his own way to the window perches, without anyone setting an example.

I would try & encourage him onto them when he was sat on my finger & a couple of times he would touch them & once even put his foot on one, but needed a bit more courage to take that next step.  On the occasion I had Perry on my finger, I would take him over, hoping he would remember the old days when he liked to sit on the window perch but if I got too close he got a bit worried so I would withdraw.

Moriarty regularly sits on the back of my chair & looks out of the window from there.  It was from that location that he took the brave leap to the window perch.  Unfortunately he was not there long enough for me to record the historic occasion!  However, since then, the window perch is now a regular haunt for him.  I am pleased about that because it provides more stimulation, from watching birds, squirrels, wind through the trees, rain, people passing through or children playing games.

Mini Beast from the East!

We have had more snow!  As previously reported, we had the Beast from the East, but this was followed up at the weekend by the Mini Beast from the East:

“Following a brief spell of warmer weather, a fresh cold snap nicknamed the “Mini Beast from the East” was forecast to bring another covering of snow on the weekend of 17 and 18 March.”  Read more here.

You would think that Bezukhov, Dalai, Perry & Lennie would be bored of it by now & in fact they were a little blasé about it, apart from Bezukov.  Bezukhov shouted at the snow a lot.  So much so that I was surprised he did not lose his voice!

Here are some videos of Bezukhov:

Here are some photos:

The eagle-eyed among you will notice there are no photos of Lennie.  He did go to the window perch several times for a closer look at the snow but he was too quick to get on camera!  To balance things out, here is a photo of the rascal that is Lennie:

The Beast from the East!

We have had snow, courtesy of the Beast from the East.

“At the end of last week the UK became a victim of the northern polar jet stream, which has twisted its direction unexpectedly, drawing in cold air from the east.”  Read more here.

It has caused disruption but fortunately Bezukhov, Dalai, Perry & Lennie are safe, well & warm.  They have been surveying the phenomenon but to be frank, after a few days, the novelty has now worn off!

Camouflaged

Sometimes Dalai can be difficult to spot….

Let it snow…

Let it snow…. a little bit!

Last Sunday, on the 10th December, there was more than a flurry of snow; the snow actually settled, albeit only briefly.  Once again, Bezukhov, Dalai, Perry & Lennie were intrigued by the sight.  Well actually, Lennie was too busy continuing his quest to be irritating, to be distracted by a little snow.  Here they are, according to the soundtrack, reminiscing about their summer…

The coldness continued & the following day brought a mixture of snow & sleet.  Here they are on the window perches surveying the phenomenon:

In the video above & photos below, you can see that Lennie did appear to pay attention to the snow but the reality was that he just followed Dalai over to the window perch!

Buckets of rain

Such a lot of rain!  Bezukhov & Lennie surveyed it all…

Lennie & the Seagull

It is rare, but now & then we see seagulls ‘out the back’.  I posted once before (click here) about a particularly scary encounter.  Each time the seagulls appear, all birds are scared & immediately rush to the safety of a cage & go quiet for some time.  I do not blame them for their seeming cowardice.  When the seagulls swoop past the window they do look menacing & fierce.

I managed to capture some photos from a recent seagull visit.  You can see in the first photo, that a very brave Lennie Dennie, is still on the window perch (far left), skinny with shock, but mesmerised by the sight.
